While on trip in San Diego California, I had the unique opportunity to ride along and photograph the La Jolla Tour D’elegance! This is the final of four parts, don’t miss part 1 , part 2, and part 3 !
After a beautiful coastal drive on a bright sunny southern California day, we finished our cruise at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.

While on trip in San Diego California, I had the unique opportunity to ride along and photograph the La Jolla Tour D’elegance! This is part three, don’t miss part 1 & part 2!
This stop of the tour landed us at a stunning collection of some of the most sought after classic cars in the world– the Calumet Collection!
but first, the incredible collection in the parking lot:

This Phantom V State Landaulette, also known as “the Queens Car” is the only one in the United States!
This 1923 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, features a bullet hole still remaining from the original owner, mobster Nucky Johnson.
Due to the crowd, it was hard to get a photo of the full car. However, it is on the top left in the photo below:

While on a photo content gathering trip to the Holman Luxury car dealerships in San Diego California, I had the unique opportunity to ride along and photograph the La Jolla Tour D’elegance.
We had just left the meet up at Porsche San Diego. ( Read Pt. 1 ) I was riding in a Porsche Panamara driven by Margie Smith-Haas and co-piloted by her husband Paul Haas. Margie Smith was the first ever woman to race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1984! My car ride was a wonderful mix of stories from Margies adventures, weaved in with a fun tour of the San Diego coastline. I found Margie and Paul to be delightful, welcoming people. They helped make this one of the best days I have spend in my travels so far!
Our first stop was the “Only yesterday” automotive Museum owned by Chuck Spielman. It is home to classic auto’s spanning from the 1930’s to the present.
The attendees filled the parking lot with quite a spectacular array of vehicles:
Walking into the main display room was quite a sight!

Two more rooms were filled with classic cars from the 30’s, a vintage ice cream truck, a vintage firetruck, pedal cars, a room of 1950’s memorabilia including a soda shop set up, and an incredible room filled with a priceless collection of military memorabilia recognized by the Smithsonian Institute! Some of these are so rare and incredible, we were asked not to photograph them. I do recommend however, that you arrange a tour and see them for yourself!
After walking around in awe for awhile, we headed out for the second leg of the cruise!

While out on a trip to San Diego, visiting the Holman dealerships, I had a very unique opportunity arise.
I was photographing Porsche San Diego on a Thursday. My plan was to leave Friday evening after photographing Audi. I was at general manager Shawn Evans desk, and we were planing the photo content I would be collecting for social media.
“Hey, you should stay for Saturdays event!” he said. I asked him what he meant, and he explained that they would be hosting a meet up point for a large car cruise attached to the “Concourse D’elegance.” He assured me I would be able to gather PLENTY of content and that if I wanted, he could probably find me someone to ride along with on the cruise.
Being a connoisseur of a good car cruise, and thinking that cruising along through San Diego in a Porsche sounded like the most fabulous way to see more of the city, I enthusiastically agreed!
Initially I figured this would a be a cruise consisting of all Porsche’s, but boy was I joyfully mistaken.
I showed up at 5 am to a darkened dealership. It may have been dark, but employees were busily bustling in and out, setting up tables, food, and arranging cars. I joined in on the setup.
Before long, the sun arrived and along with it, a stream of cars of the highest caliber began rolling in.
Once they were all parked, I began my rounds.

It felt like no time at all had passed, and it was already time for the drivers meeting!
I was given an incredible opportunity to ride with a VERY special couple for the cruise. I will tell you all about it in part 2!
